JAMES (Jim) MILLER REMEMBERED AT BRADENTON    WITH A STANDING OVATION FROM STATE SHUFFLERS, JO MILLER THANKED ALL WHO ATTENDED THE BRADENTON CLUB MEMORIAL HONORING HER LATE HUSBAND JIM MILLER WHO PASSED AWAY UNEXPECTEDLY LAST SPRING. SHE NOTED THE MANY PHONE CALLS AND HUNDREDS OF CARDS SHE RECEIVED. PICTURED WITH JO MILLER AFTER TRAVELING FROM THEIR INDIANA HOME TO ATTEND THE CEREMONY ARE SON TIM MILLER, HIS WIFE TIFFANY AND CHILDREN CHRIS, RYAN & HOPE. JIM MILLER IS WIDELY CONSIDERED THE BEST SINGLES PLAYER IN RECENT TIMES WINNING 13 DIFFERENT SINGLES TITLES. HE ALSO WON 5 MORE MASTERS TITLES IN THE SWCD. JERRY STANNARD BEGAN THE MEMORIAL BY REMINISCING ABOUT JIM AND ALSO LISTING THE MANY TITLES HE HAD WON. JERRY ALSO ALLUDED TO THE MANY HOURS JIM PUT IN AT THE BRADENTON COURTS AND THE FACT HE WOULD PLAY WITH ANY PARTNER WHO ASKED HIM. RON NURNBERGER THEN READ A STATEMENT ON BEHALF OF THE MILLER FAMILY. IT INCLUDED A STATEMENT FROM HIS DAUGHTER NANCY: “JIM WAS A BROTHER, UNCLE, HUSBAND, FATHER, GRANDFATHER, CHAMPION AND SIMPLY A GREAT FRIEND TO ALL WHO KNEW HIM.” FROM JO MILLER: “JIM WAS A QUIET PERSON, WITH THE MOST EVEN TEMPERAMENT AND NOT ONE TO BE IN THE SPOTLIGHT. HE WAS PROUD OF HOW WELL HE PREPARED THE DISCS AND COURTS AT BRADENTON. A SIMPLE ‘THANK YOU’ FOR HIS WORK MADE HIS DAY. FROM BRADENTON SHUFFLEBOARD CLUB MEMBERS: “RARELY DOES A PERSON AS SPECIAL AS JIM MILLER WITH SO MANY LIKABLE TALENTS AND ABILITIES PASS THROUGH OUR LIVES. JIM WAS OUR ‘GO TO PERSON’ FOR SHUFFLEBOARD ADVICE, BE IT COURTS, DISCS OR SHUFFLEBOARD STRATEGY. Jerry has for some time donated $1.00 for each year his father has lived. In case you were not aware, father Gib celebrated his 102nd anniversary of his birth THIS YEAR.  Although not shuffling this year, I understand he does show up to support Jerry!!  Thanks Gib for honoring us with your presence this year. At its weekly SWCD tournament held at the Bradenton club today, club members ‘sang’ happy birthday to ‘Gib’ Stannard to celebrate his 102nd birthday. Gib spent the morning watching his son Jerry play.  At noon he went home to take a Nap and then came back in the afternoon to watch Jerry’s next match!  Two weeks ago at the SWCD ‘pins’ presentation for last seasons  top ladies and men players, President Ron Nurnberger presented Gib with a special award named for him: “SWCD fan of the year!”  Sent along by SWCD President Ron Nurnberger with THANKS.
